The CCI is responsible for managing the commercial ports in the Department (County), and pays particular attention to the infrastructure, investments and developments required for the major shop window ports providing access to the region: Ajaccio, Propriano, Bonifacio and Porto-Vecchio..
A considerable amount of development is taking place in these 4 ports, particularly with the Bay of Ajaccio Development Scheme, voted by the Corsican Regional Council in early 2010, which has 3 distinct construction phases and should be finished in 2014. Its aim is to make the port and local urban area work more harmoniously together and respect their specific activities and objectives. The project will make a number of important changes, particularly to improve security: harbour liquid waste pump-out systems will be moved to safer locations; traffic circulation in the town centre will be improved; and traffic capacity in the port will be increased.

This Development Scheme as well as the development projects concerning the other ports and harbours, were undertaken in order to keep and maintain the cultural aspects of each site, improve their image and underwrite their ambitions for sustainable development and an improved living environment.
Because of the region's natural beauty and protected and diversified environment, as well as the high quality of the infrastructures and services it provides, the CCI increases its efforts each year to promote maritime traffic, whether commercial, ferries or for leisure.
These activities not only play an important role in the region's tourist industry but also make a substantial contribution to its economy. They have become a major commercial challenge for Ajaccio and South Corsica's Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
